1.    Sanaullah dies at a Chandigarh hospital
 
i. Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay died at a hospital in Chandigarh.
ii. 52-year-old Sanaullah was air lifted to PGI Chandigarh on Friday last after he suffered serious injuries during a scuffle with a fellow prisoner at Kot Balwal jail in Jammu.
iii. A PGI spokesman said, Sanaullah died due to multiple organ failure this morning. 
iv. Body of Sanaullah Ranjay, a Pakistani prisoner who died in a Chandigarh hospital today has been handed over to an official of Pakistan High Commission by the authorities in Chandigarh.
v. The Body has been taken to Airport Chandigarh from where it will be flown to Pakistan. Two Pakistani diplomats and two relatives of Sanaullah were among the persons who had taken the body. 
NOTE: i. A resident of Sialkot in Pakistan, Sanuallah was serving a life term after he was convicted under TADA provisions following his arrest in 1999.
ii. The scuffle, in which Sanaullah suffred injuries, took place a day after the death of an Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who was brutally attacked by fellow inmates in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.

2.    RBI to introduce plastic currency notes soon: D. Subbarao

i. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will introduce plastic currency notes soon, its governor, D Subbarao said on Wednesday.
ii. On the issue of Cobrapost expose, he said, "No conclusive evidence of money laundering in Cobrapost expose has been found."
iii. He added that the RBI or banks are not directly responsible for inquiring the source of money.
iv. He further said that it is for the government and tax deparments to check money laundering.
v. Subbarao also said that it is a challenge to bring down inflation without hurting growth.

3.    World Bank chief: Aadhaar to help eradicate poverty
i. Describing Aadhaar card as one of the best examples of integration of technology for social welfare use, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim believes that this massive effort by India would help in achieving its goal of poverty eradication by 2030.
ii. "On a larger scale we've got to think about how we can integrate this technology into a massive effort to scale up access to financial services," Kim said at a recent World Bank event during which Nandan Nilekani, the head of such an effort in India, made a presentation on the Aadhaar programme at the bank headquarters in Washington.
iii. Nilekani is the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India. Highly impressed by Aaadhaar, Kim said this could help achieve the target of eradicating poverty by 2030 in ways big and small.
iv. "This is the science of delivery. Now, more than ever, we have to find innovations like these that have been thought through carefully, and are quickly and easily scalable," the World Bank President said.


4.    Former Pakistani PM Gilani's son abducted
i. Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's son Ali Haider Gilani was kidnapped Thursday in a town in Pakistan's Punjab province by armed men who stormed his street corner meeting with their guns blazing, killing one and injuring five.
ii. Armed men opened fire and injured five people, including Ali Haider’s secretary Mohiuddin, who later died.
iii. Footage on television showed Ali Moosa Gilani, another of the former premier's sons, crying and trying to control irate workers of the Pakistan People's Party.
iv. The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has warned it will target secular parties like the Pakistan People's Party and Awami National Party ahead of the 11th May general election. The threats have forced the parties to virtually stop campaigning for the polls.

5.    Saina, Sindhu retain world rankings
i. London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal and rising shuttler P V Sindhu have retained their respective 2nd and 13th spots in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.
ii. London Olympics quarter-finalist Parupalli Kashyap has also maintained his 11th position in the men's singles list.
iii. Sindhu, who rose two places to reach her career-best No.13 last week, recently lifted her maiden Grand Prix Gold title in Malaysia, but that did not help her gain any position in the list.
